Will the Last "Letter from America"
Please Bring Back the Flag?

The Daily News reports (lead item) that Alistair Cooke has delivered his final "Letter from America" to BBC listeners. (Hear it in Real Audio.) This is certainly dim tidings, but then again, I had long thought that the 95-year-old Cooke was dead, so I was quite pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise.

Just within the last year I started hearing him again, usually while brushing my teeth -- at least on the station I heard him on, he'd been relegated to midnight on Saturdays.
Everyone I mentioned this to had your reaction: they thought he was dead too. In fact, he was still pretty good.
