God is not going to stop making charismatic maniacs, so it falls to newspapers to figure out how to do a better job of apprehending them.

Nicholas Lemann contemplates Jayson Blair's hastily written memoirs for The New Yorker, describing the author as a "Major Head Case" but also suggesting Blair's inability to keep it together editorially speaking is one of the book's more compelling features.
