Jesus, incomparable forgiver of trespasses,

a lustral grace from rages and lusts.

Tell me this appalling horror of agony
obsessing me, comes only from my heinous guilt,
that upon dying I will find the light of a new day

Darío was born in Nicaragua and spent his adult life in South America and Spain; he is widely heralded as an inspiration to a generation of Spanish-language poets that included Lorca, Neruda, and Paz.
