NY Post Continues Hypocritical Shilling for HarperCollins

by Ron Hogan

Check out today's Page Six column for a bevy of book-related links, from the Bergdorf Blondes party to gossip about the upcoming Anna Wintour bio. But the item that truly stands out is a suggestion that Bill Clinton's memoir is being used to blackmail John Kerry into picking Hillary as his running mate. The sources? An anonymous "political expert" and "Dick Morris--whose own book, Rewriting History (a play on Hillary's Living History), is due out May 4." What they don't tell you, of course, is that the publisher of said book just happens to be corporate cousin HarperCollins...or, for that matter, that Morris basically owes his entire post-hooker's-toe-sucking career to Rupert Murdoch, who gives him all sorts of media outlets--the Post, HarperCollins, Fox News--to distribute the conservative talking points.

Pretty shameless--and shameful--behavior for the paper that carries a grudge against Viacom for appearancs by Simon & Schuster authors on CBS. But also totally predictable. (Unrelated, but also worth noting, is that the column is apparently now lifting items from blogs; their Suicide Girls story is strikingly similar to a recent entry in BoingBoing.)
