So Much for the Cross-Promotion

by Ron Hogan

Lloyd Grove has the nuttiest story yet on Bob Woodward's Plan of Attack. Apparently the book includes a scene in which Colin Powell discusses the invasion of Iraq and invokes "the Pottery Barn rule: You break it, you own it." (Surely that's "you break it, you bought it," no? I mean, I'd hate to think than on top of this administration's other faults, it has no ear for colloquial speech.) Anyway, Pottery Barn immediately geared up its defense: "This is certainly not our policy in any of our 174 Pottery Barn retail outlets in North America. In fact, there is no policy regarding this whatsoever." (Thanks, Publishers Lunch...)
