Happy Bloomsday!

by Ron Hogan

jamesjoyce.jpgCelebrate the centennial by reading a bit of Ulysses, with a little chapter-by-chapter help from the BBC.

Looking for a way to ease into the festivities? Try yes I said yes I will Yes, an excellent scrapbook of information about James Joyce and his groundbreaking novel--and how critics and readers have responded over the years. As I type this, the fun is about to begin at Symphony Space, where they have an annual marathon reading which may be the only place you'll see Keir Dullea share the stage with Barbara Feldon--and Stephen Lang! And Stephen Colbert! And two McCourts! If I didn't have to work this afternoon, dammit...but I'll still be listening to the simulcast on WBAI from my computer. For more info, read this Newsday piece.

UPDATE: Apparently WBAI is only carrying the evening portion of the show, and unless they do a time-delay, missing the first half-hour of the Circe episode. But you'll still get Fionnula Flanagan reading Molly's soliloquy...unless they cut her off before she gets to the Yes bits.
