No Apologies

by Ron Hogan

So I just discovered this new (new to me, anyway) bookish blog called Fernham, which I've promptly added to my bookmarks and will add to my blogroll in due time, and she reminded me I hadn't looked at Gwenda Bond's Shaken and Stirred in over a week, but Gwenda had the perfect reaction to some of the highly visible handwringing over bloggers praising their friends' books that's been going on lately:

"Yes, I often urge people to check out the work of my friends. I expect most of the people that come here know that and have made whatever peace they need to with it. But I stand by those recommendations, because, you know what? My friends are fucking talented and I believe you should be checking out their work. I make no apologies for that. So I will repeatedly bang, bang, bang the drum for friends' work. Not only because their work is worth it, but because it matters to me that it gets read, because it's deserving."
