Get the Picture

Having just obtained an author photo myself, I was amused by Tayari Jones's take on the process:

"I wanted something smoky and mysterious, but I tended to come out looking precious and a little bit cute. The clock was ticking--not only because of the looming deadline, but because I was set to have braces put on my teeth in just a week."

After flirtation with Marion Ettlinger fell through, Jones turned to her next-door neighbor, Richard Powers, who was itching for an excuse to play with his new digital camera. The final results are on her blog... and can also be seen next month on the jacket of The Untelling.
