One-Week Holiday Sabbatical

by Ron Hogan

If you're a regular reader, you've probably noticed that the once-daily pace of Beatrice had dropped off a bit in recent weeks, as I was getting caught up with a variety of other projects. I'm about to take an even longer break from posting, which will last until January 2, 2006.

During this weeklong downtime, I'll be continuing work on a redesign of the site. You may have already noted some of the cosmetic changes; what's left to be implemented is somewhat more substantial. Several recent speaking engagements with panels on bookblogging, as well as strong doses of Seth Godin, have inspired me to consider carefully the purpose of Beatrice, and I've come to this conclusion:

Beatrice is about introducing readers to writers.

There will be changes to the blog in 2006, the exact nature of which I won't disclose as yet. What I can tell you is that they'll continue to build on what's happened here over the last two years, while bringing the blog around to conform more fully with that mission statement above. And that I'm pretty sure you'll like the new Beatrice as much as (maybe even more than) the old one.

(Of course, I've still got my paying gig at Galleycat, and I'll be there all next week along. It'll probably be a slow news week, but Sarah and I are trying to cook up some entertaining year-end stuff...)
