Current Reading
by ScottI've gotta admit... I'm probably the last person in the person to read Bill Buford's Heat. I have been a longtime fan of Buford's first book, Among the Thugs but I just hadn't gotten around to reading his new one. I finally decided to get in the literary kitchen this weekend and see about Buford's quest to learn professional cooking skills. The book was quite interesting, although I must admit there were one or two times when I bogged down during lengthy passages about the zen of pasta making. Still, it's well worth the read.
I've also been reading books that aren't on the shelves yet. Robert Anthony Siegel's All Will Be Revealed is an intriguing read about an nineteenth century eccentric exotic photographer who is drawn to a beautiful psychic. Touching on topics of love, adventure, and greed, this book is going quite well so far.
Then We Came to the End by Joshua Ferris details the idiosyncracies of Chicago ad workers during a time of layoffs and business downsizing. This is a funny book, but not in an obvious, heavy-handed The Office kind of way. Very engaging.
And I'm most excited about A Miracle of Catfish. This is the novel Larry Brown was working on at the time of his sudden death. I'm really savoring this one.
All three books are due out in March so keep an eye out for them!
