Lovelorn Novelist Torments Mayor

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s obsessed stalker is ... you guessed it, a novelist! Yesterday, a San Francisco Superior Court judge issued a three-year restraining order against Han Sup Shin, which prohibits him from coming within 100 yards of Newsom’s body, place of business, home and vehicles. Shin — who is the author of Ah! The Beauty Within Me: A Spiritual Odyssey — showed up outside Newsom’s home on Valentine’s Day of this year at around midnight. As reported in the San Francisco Examiner, “his intention was to ‘engage in sexual activity,’ according to San Francisco police Inspector Jeff Lindberg, who testified at Wednesday’s court hearing. Shin later bragged to friends that he and Newsom had sex, said Lindberg, who added that it was ‘untrue.’” Shin had been following the mayor for some time and officers found detailed instructions in his car for reaching Newsom’s home. He is currently in custody for burglarizing a house elsewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area and trying three times to run over a resident of the house with his car. The individual was allegedly the roommate of an ex-boyfriend of the author/suspect. Shin, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was arrested last year on suspicion of threatening his elderly parents and was also accused of shining a laser light in a prosecutor's eye during a court appearance, public records show. His parents obtained a restraining order against him in 1998. He fled a psychiatric facility that same year. In 1973, he immigrated to the U.S.A. with his parents and lived in San Francisco. In 1983, he graduated as the Class Valedictorian from James Logan High School in Union City, California. He attended U.C. Berkeley, majoring in Business. In the fall of 1986, he had a mystical experience which left him to pursue a spiritual journey towards Enlightenment.”
