The Delivery Man Delivers

The Delivery Man by Joe McGinniss Jr. is a stark, deadpan, engrossing novel of kids gone wrong in Las Vegas. The main character, Chase, is an artist with aspirations beyond Sin City. But he can't seem to escape the quicksand of the Strip and Michelle, his prostitute friend.

This novel has drawn a a number of comparisons with Bret Easton Ellis. Many of these nods are because Ellis was instrumental in the book finding a publisher. And The Delivery Man certainly explores the same kind of disaffected decadence that Less Than Zero examined. But make no mistake about it. McGinniss' work can stand on it's own merits.

If you're looking for a syrupy, happy read, this ain't it. But if you like seeing into the darkside of today's MySpace Generation, then The Delivery Man delivers.
