What She Wrote...

by Ron Hogan

Somehow it had escaped my attention until now that Lucinda Rosenfeld has been, in effect, blogging for Slate all week as their latest diarist. Day one's highlight: the young author's showing up for a meeting with Judith Regan to discuss her first novel in an skimpy dress and being eternally grateful the manuscript was rejected. Other than that, it's all "I'm renovating my house" and "My new book comes out this week." To be honest, I've never quite gotten the Lucinda Rosenfeld buzz, and I say that as somebody with some sympathy to those novels that straddle the line between literary fiction and chick lit. I read the short stories in The New Yorker and found them rather flat. Give me a Thisbe Nissen or a Helen Ellis any day.
