Awww, That Trick Never Works

Lewis Lapham spoke to Newsday about his latest book, Gag Rule, and why the Bush administration's security state agenda won't work:

"To think that we can somehow erect an impenetrable fence around the entire America, around each of our lives, is folly. Yes, you can be more careful, more alert. But the thing that's going to protect you in the end is the courage and resourcefulness of your people, not the procedures for going though airport security.

Especially if the best those procedures can do is keep pacifist nuns and
Ted Kennedy from getting where they want to go.
