introducing readers to writers since 1995

hello beatrice people
by dj
I'm kinda thrilled and more than a bit flattered that Ron has invited me to blog here....over at my site, Bookburger, my fellow burger-flippers and I revel in feeding juicy tidbits to our hungry readers, and I'll be doing the same here at Beatrice.com (or Aunt Bea, as I fondly think of it). At Bookburger, we focus on the young and female side of the book biz: YA novels, chick lit, and literary fiction that we think our teens-and-twenties readers will love. We serve up news, reviews, and author interviews. And sometimes we just write about whatever the hell we want to....
Anyhow, lately we're totally loving Paint It Black, the new novel by White Oleander author Janet Fitch. Recenty, we interviewed Janet (in our own somewhat skewed reportorial style) and among other things, we asked her this:
Burger-flippers want to know: have you ever had a job that required you to wear a geeky uniform? Details, please!
Office worker outfits. I was a Manpower Temp and wore pleated skirts and high heels, nylons. I could get dressed in ten minutes-- I had two skirts and two pairs of heels, which was usually fine because I normally was only on a job for a day or two. But sometimes I was at a company for a couple of weeks, and people would start dropping hints…
Not particularly useful info, but interesting nevertheless. Janet also reveals that "Talk of the Town" by the Pretenders is her personal theme song, and she reels off a fascinating list of favorite books and writers—her taste is brainy and wide-ranging, and the list include some titles that we ARE SURE you haven't read.... Find it, and the rest of the interview, here. Oh yeah, we're giving away a copy of Paint It Black if you join our bookburger b-list. You can do that on the site too.
We'll be turning up here at Aunt Bea's every Tuesday. Til then, ciao, lovely beatrice people....
